The Department of Vocational Education, Restaurant and Tourism Business of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Technologies and Trade has many years of experience in training high-quality specialists. The department was established in 1976. She repeatedly changed her name. Initially, the department trained teachers of general technical disciplines and labor. Since 2000, the department, in addition to vocational training teachers, has been training engineer-pedagogues in the "Professional Education" specialty in five areas. Since 2023, the department is also engaged in the training of specialists in the field of tourism and recreation and hotel and restaurant business.
The main goal and task of the department: ensuring a high-quality, scientific level of teaching special disciplines with the use of modern educational and digital technologies, constant improvement of educational and methodological support of the educational process taking into account modern achievements of science and technology, formation of a comprehensively developed competent graduate, a specialist in his field.
The mission of the department: training of highly qualified, mobile and competitive specialists, able to effectively use acquired theoretical knowledge and practical skills in professional activities, capable of solving complex specialized tasks and practical problems of organizing an innovative educational process.

Scientific activity
The department has approved a comprehensive topic "Research of problems of professional education, production technologies and the sphere of service". The topics of scientific research of the department's teachers are diverse. This is due to the fact that candidates and doctors of technical, chemical, economic, pedagogical and geographical sciences work at the department. The topics of scientific research and the results of scientific research work reflect the range of research of the department's teachers.
In 2019, 2 scientific topics were opened at the PORTB department (responsible executor, associate professor, candidate of technical sciences, V.O. Kolesnikov):
"Research and analysis of cutting products as indicators of the destruction of alloys at various stages of the life cycle of products" (Ph.D. No. 0119U102465 (2019 - 2029);
"Research and analysis of wear products as indicators of the destruction of alloys at various stages of the life cycle of products" (Ph.D. No. 0119U102243 (2019 - 2029).
In 2024, a new topic was opened: "The influence of hydrogen and hydrogen-containing environments on the properties of steels and alloys used in the energy, power engineering, and transport industries" (Ph.D. No. 0124U003385(2024-2029). Associate Professor of the PORTB Department, Candidate of Technical Sciences M. V. Lutsenko continues to work on scientific topics:
"Valorization of by-products from the extraction of vegetable oils: obtaining useful biologically active substances from low-value organic products." Cooperation in this direction is carried out with scientists of DDAEU (Ukraine), the University of Brescia (Italy), the universities of Barcelona and Malaga (Spain).
"Development and substantiation of equipment for sorting grain mixtures." In this direction, scientific research is carried out on the basis of LLC "Sorting Machines" in Dnipro.
The teachers of the department constantly improve and raise the level of their scientific and teaching-methodical qualifications through internships in leading educational and research institutions of Ukraine and abroad.
Over the past five years, faculty members of the department have participated in more than 100 international, national, and regional conferences and seminars. They have published 42 articles with an impact factor and over 100 articles in journals not included in scientometric databases; additionally, they have produced 6 study guides, 12 sets of methodological guidelines, 1 monograph, 1 monograph chapter, and 4 articles within monographs, while also obtaining 1 patent for an invention, 10 utility model patents, and 7 copyright certificates.
Scientific developments of teachers are implemented in the activities of general secondary, vocational and higher education institutions, institutions, enterprises in the field of hotel, restaurant and tourism business, public organizations.
The department holds regional, all-Ukrainian and international scientific and practical conferences, seminars and other scientific events. Over the past 5 years, the department has organized and held one all-Ukrainian and two international scientific and practical conferences, two all-Ukrainian student conferences, two inter-departmental seminars, a joint seminar with LOIPPO, one workshop, exhibitions of creative works of department students were organized.
Research work with students of higher education
The department constantly encourages students of higher education to engage in research. Graduates of higher education take an active part in the work of conferences, university Science Days, competitions of scientific works, Olympiads. Three student scientific circles work at the department.
The results of the scientific work of students of higher education under the leadership of professors and teaching staff of the department are reflected in speeches at scientific events and scientific publications.
Over the past 5 years, 152 students took part in the 1st round of the All-Ukrainian competition for student scientific works. 5 students became the winners of the II round of the All-Ukrainian competition of student scientific works.
The department has published 7 collections "Scientific search of young researchers". More than 200 articles and about 150 theses have been published by students..
Cooperation
The department has long-standing ties with institutions of general secondary, vocational-technical, professional pre-higher and higher education, the best enterprises, organizations and scientific institutions of Ukraine, which allows to provide students of higher education with high-quality bases for various internships both in Ukraine and abroad (in particular in Germany, Bulgaria, Greece) and provides an opportunity for students of higher education to get a job while still studying. The department effectively implements the program of continuity of education. Applicants of higher education are given the opportunity to participate in various student exchange programs, they have the opportunity to continue their studies in foreign educational institutions under various cooperation programs of Ukrainian and foreign higher education institutions.
Associate Professor of the PORTB Department Kolesnikov V. O. together with the Department of Strength of Materials and Structures in Hydrogen-Containing Environments of the Physics and Mechanics Institute named after G. V. Karpenka of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Lviv) conducts joint research devoted to the evaluation of the physical and mechanical macro- and micromechanisms of the action of hydrogen and hydrogen-containing environments on the performance of low- and complex-alloyed steels and alloys. Research is also being conducted on the morphology of cutting and wear products of complex alloyed steels and alloys formed under the complex action of factors. The analysis and generalization of information on hydrogen technologies, hydrogen and hybrid types of transport is ongoing.
Close cooperation has been established with the state enterprise "Lviv Design Bureau" (Lviv) and the company "HydroOffice" (Lviv), which specializes in the design, manufacture, repair and service of hydraulic cylinders, oil stations, hydraulic distributors and high-pressure hoses.
M.V. Lutsenko, associate professor of the PORTB department, works together with private enterprises "Desnaland" LLC and "LINEN OF DESNA" LLC (Glukhiv), LLC "Helsy Tradition" (Kyiv) in support of the development and improvement of the regulatory framework (Technical conditions) for the production of products from the processing of industrial hemp and other oil and bast crops, as well as the production of food products with an increased content of biologically active substances
The department cooperates with government representatives (Lubensk Territorial Community, Luhansk Regional State Administration) and public organizations (Public Platform "Destination Development" and GS "All-Ukrainian Association of Guides", in particular in terms of improving the level of hotel-restaurant, tourist and excursion service; development of the hospitality and tourism sector; provision of hotel-restaurant and tourist business with qualified specialists; with representatives of the business community in conducting trainings, worr-shop, practical and lecture classes, open meetings.
O.O. Karolop, assistant professor of the department, actively participates in the coordination of international projects "Public and cultural diplomacy: Ukraine - Europe" together with the Consulate General of Ukraine in Italy and the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Albania and the international project "Innovativeeducationas a driver of sustainabledevelopmentofdestinations: Ukraine - Europa".
The department actively cooperates with Batumi State University named after Shota Rustaveli (Republic of Georgia, Batumi) in the direction of studying the experience of training specialists in tourism and recreation; DZVO "Vadim Hetman Kyiv National University" and Ivan Franko Lviv National University in the context of scientific developments, monitoring trends in education and hospitality; Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A. S. Makarenko - involvement of teachers in presiding over the examination committee.
An innovative addition to cooperation between higher education institutions is work on joint development and implementation of an academic mobility program for students of the "Tourism and Recreation" and "Hotel and Restaurant Business" educational programs jointly with the Academy of Applied Sciences WSHIU (Poznan, Poland); with the Department of Tourism, Hotel and Restaurant Business of the National University of Food Technologies (Kyiv) and the Department of Food Technologies of the Poltava State Agrarian University (Poltava).
Further cooperation is carried out with Ukrainian and foreign research institutes, centers and universities (Kyiv, Dnipro, Lviv, Kharkiv, Kropyvnytskyi, Mykolaiv, Uman), Poland (Szczecin), Germany (Dresden), Denmark (Ballerup). Cooperation has been established with Khmelnytskyi National University, Central Ukrainian State Pedagogical University named after Volodymyr Vinnychenko, Uman State Pedagogical University named after Pavel Tychyna, Hlukhiv National Pedagogical University named after Oleksandr Dovzhenko.
