Events for World Vyshyvanka Day at Taras Shevchenko LNU
This year (May 15), World Vyshyvanka Day is dedicated to the preservation of Ukrainian cultural heritage occupied by russia.
1. Campaign "Preserve for Posterity"
We invite all structural subdivisions of the university, as well as everyone interested, to join the campaign celebrating Vyshyvanka Day!
We suggest creating one of the following video formats:
• a short film;
• a presentation;
• a poetic or musical composition;
• other creative formats.
Theme — stories about unique ornaments, color schemes of embroidery from your homelands, personal memories, life stories about embroidered shirts, the fates of individual vyshyvankas, and stories about the unique features of embroidery from the occupied territories or from the places where you are currently located.
If possible — showcase your family relics: evacuated or preserved embroidered shirts, ritual towels (rushnyks) that carry historical or emotional value.
Please send your entries by May 9, 2025, to the following address: lnu.pressa@gmail.com
In your email, make sure to specify:
• the title of your work for the "Preserve for Posterity" category;
• the structural subdivision you represent.
From May 10 to May 15, your creative works will be published on the official social media pages of Taras Shevchenko LNU.
Together, let us preserve memory and traditions!
2. Traditional Embroidery Exhibition "Colors Intertwined Like a Rainbow"
Format: on-site at the locations of the university subdivisions and online on social media pages.
3. Photo Contest in the categories:
"My Family in Vyshyvanka";
"United by an Embroidered Destiny" - collective photos;
"I am Ukrainian".
To participate, you need to fulfill very simple requirements:
• Use your imagination and take a creative photo wearing embroidered shirts.
• Send the photo to the contest jury, indicating the category, last name, first name of the participant, structural subdivision, and position (student, lecturer, staff member) to: lnu.pressa@gmail.com
• Photos are accepted until May 17, 2025 (so that you can submit interesting photos directly from Vyshyvanka Day).
4. Contest "My Home in Vyshyvanka Style" 
Decorate the directorate offices or any other premises of your subdivision in the style of Ukrainian embroidery — rushnyks, national colors, folk decor.
Subdivisions located in the following cities can participate: Lubny, Poltava, Myrhorod, Dolyna, and Chornomorsk.
The jury will determine the winners on-site, considering creativity, relevance to the theme, and the overall atmosphere of the decoration.
Together, let us create a space where the Ukrainian soul lives!
