XІV student olympiad in algebra

The FTIS hosted the traditional XIV Student Olympiad in Algebra dedicated to the memory of Professor V. M. Usenko (on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of his birth).

On April 14, the Faculty of Technologies and Information Systems, within the framework of Science Days and the work of the algebra research group "Algebra Research Group" (ARG), hosted the traditional student algebraic Olympiad via the Google Meet online service. The event was dedicated to the memory of the prominent Ukrainian algebraist, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Vitaliy Mykhailovych Usenko. The scientist made a significant contribution to the development of algebra in the Luhansk region and Ukraine, working at our university from 2001 to 2006. At the initiative of Professor V. M. Usenko, the mathematical journal "Algebra and Discrete Mathematics", well-known in the world today, was organized in 2002. Since 2012, it has been included in the international scientometric database Scopus, and since 2016 – in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (Web of Science) database, and currently, according to the SCImago Journal & Country Rank, this journal has a Q3 quartile. Opening remarks were made by representatives of the algebraic scientific school, Doctors of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professors Yuriy Zhuchok and Anatoliy Zhuchok — students of Professor V. M. Usenko, who defended their doctoral dissertations within this scientific school. The Olympiad was held in one round for students of mathematical specialties. The tasks proposed to the students were of a general algebraic nature and related to such areas of mathematics as number theory, linear algebra, graph theory, semigroup theory, and universal algebra. The winners of the Olympiad were: 1st-year master's student of the specialty "Secondary Education. Mathematics" Yevhen Kuriachyi (I place), 3rd-year student of the specialty "Secondary Education. Mathematics. Physics" Anastasiia Oropai (II place), and 4th-year student of the specialty "Secondary Education. Mathematics. Physics" Olena Tetereshchenko (III place).

Congratulations to the winners and we wish them every further success!
