The department of information technologies and systems was created on the basis of the department of informatics on November 4, 2002. The department is the main structural unit of the university, which carries out the educational process and its methodological support, conducts scientific research, and performs other activities.
The main purpose of creating the department and its tasks:
- Fundamental and professional training of qualified specialists for planning-economic, organizational-management, teaching, analytical and research activities at enterprises and organizations of various branches of the national economy and various forms of ownership.
- Organization and provision of the educational process in the disciplines of the department, conducting educational work among students, conducting scientific research, participating in training and upgrading the qualifications of scientific and pedagogical personnel, as well as ensuring creative relations with university graduates.
- Comprehensive methodical support of the department's educational disciplines; preparation of textbooks, teaching aids using the most advanced methods, effective use of modern teaching equipment and laboratory equipment.
- Expansion and strengthening of ties with production and organizations on the issues of: development of cooperation in the training of informatics specialists; execution of scientific research works to the order of farm contracts and cooperation contracts; involvement of leading producers and scientists of the region in pedagogical activities; professional development of specialists in the national economy.
- Participation in informational and research work of the university: conducting scientific research on the most important theoretical socio-economic and scientific-technical problems according to the profile of the department, problems of higher education pedagogy; discussion of completed research works, recommending them for publication; organization of scientific research work of students, involving them in the scientific work of the department.
- Cooperation with departments of the same field in other universities of Ukraine and foreign universities in educational, educational and methodological, research work, as well as with foreign research institutions according to the profile of the department.
The department's mission is to create conditions that stimulate the professional competence of teachers and students, necessary for a career in the information industry, as well as to comprehensively support the process of fulfilling the university's mission by constantly improving the process of using modern information technologies.
Educational activity
The department graduates in the specialties "123 Computer Engineering" at the bachelor's level, "121 Software Engineering" at the bachelor's level and "123 Computer Engineering" at the master's level, "121 Software Engineering" at the master's level.

Scientific activity
The department's research work is multifaceted and encompasses several areas involving the application of information technologies across various fields of science, technology, economics, and education:
- research of effective methods of joint work and integration of various operating systems;
- research of engineering design systems and modeling of physical and mechanical characteristics of structures and special purpose products;
- development of adaptive learning management systems, including distance learning systems;
- information provision of socio-economic and technical processes;
- development and implementation of modern informational educational systems;
- development and modeling of control systems for specialized winding equipment;
- theoretical foundations of informatics;
- development of integrated information and advisory systems based on JAVA technologies;
- development and research of educational WEB-portals;
- creation of educational programs in the humanitarian direction.
On the basis of the department, the problematic research laboratory “Research of information systems and electronic educational programs". Work on the creation of "Network Programming" and "Microcontroller Programming" laboratories is actively underway. Laboratories are an integral part of the ITS department, their creation contributes to the development of scientific research and educational and methodological activities of the department and the university as a whole.
Every year, on the basis of the department, regional olympiads in informatics are held among schoolchildren, students of professional and secondary technical institutions, and the All-Ukrainian scientific and practical conference "Modern trends in the development of information technologies in science, education and economy" has been organized since 2004.

Research work with students
The department conducts research work with students in accordance with the department's NDRS plan. Students of the technical direction of training are encouraged to research work, especially during the preparation and holding of the University Days of Science, preparation of scientific works for participation in the university competition of scientific works of students. Students and master's students take an active part in scientific and practical conferences of young scientists.
Students are engaged in research work under the guidance of leading teachers of the department. The results of scientific work with students are reflected in scientific articles.
